Next year, if all goes well, and Putin has not invaded, I will take a plane to Kyiv and then a train to Chernihiv.  That is a year away, at least, so in the meantime I have a project in mind.  Well, actually it’s a project I started a while ago but I just haven’t blogged about it.

A while ago I wrote a series of posts under the heading The Streets of Chernivtsi, I started the introductory page with a line from a Clash song: “You should get to know your town, just like I know mine” (City of the Dead).

I then wrote: “I…want to know what it will be like to arrive in a completely new city that I actually know pretty damn well, all thanks to the internet.”

This is the project.  What is it like to arrive in a place, to disembark at the station, to walk out into the sun and know where I am and where I’m going and to feel almost at home in this town?

Anyway, this is the project and we’ll see how it goes.
