I like this quote from the Ball of Honey (Madhupindika) sutta.
…learning to view feelings not as things but as parts of a causal process affecting the qualities in the mind
In many ways this has been my primary meditation goal for 2012.
Feelings can be untangled.
Shinzen Young (my meditation teacher) talks about using mindfulness and equanimity to tease out the strands of strong feelings.
Once loosened, the components of each feeling can be seen individually, for what they each are, then they lose the power to make us act out.
Bound together, feelings are immensly strong, unbound they diminish in intensity.
