The Decorators

The DecoratorsThe Decorators were a band from Acton in West London. Formed in 1980, they released two albums and four singles before splitting up in 1984.

Sadly the band did not make a great impact on the music scene and are today remembered by only a few diehard fans.

I’ve always loved The Decorators, from the night I first I heard them on the John Peel show in 1980, to the present day, over 30 years later.

Lyrically a romantic,  melancholy and at times self-referential band, they were strongly influenced by the Velvet Underground and The Only Ones. They sang of love and death, betrayal, rebellion, cat people and red skies over Wembley.

  2. Hello from Japan. I wrote a blog about The Decorators. I tried to find more details but I found your fan site was not active. Anyway, I love this band especially voice of Michael Bevan. I wonder how they are doing now. I found Steve Sandor were sadly annoyed by Brain Aneurysm ….
I hope to see your fan site.

    1. Hi Hiromi, thank you for commenting. I am planning to launch the Decorators fan site in 2020. How did you discover the band in Japan?

      Cheers, Martin

  3. Hi I’m Pete Saunders I played keys with the Decorators for a while I’ve got some old pictures I’d like to putt into a video compilation. Any one got mp3s of any tracks I could have.

  4. Hi, it’s so good to hear from appreciative Decs fans. We used to live with Gilani and Bevan and would trudge along to the 100 club or wherever every week. Sorry to hear about Sandor’s troubles. I’m still stuck in the half world !

  5. Discovered this band only today! Found a copy of Tablets in a second hand shop in Donaghadee, Northern Ireland. Really enjoying it so far! Reminds me of the band Television in a way. Shame this band weren’t more well known in their day.
