The path took me up to Cromer cliffs and alongside the golf course. The views were wonderful, especially looking back towards Cromer with the sun making its way slowly down.<\/p>\n<p>I arrived at my wild camp pitch at about 10.30pm but it wasn&#8217;t really suitable, another case of the (Google) map <strong>not<\/strong> being the territory, I wasn&#8217;t sure what to do at this point so made my way down to the beach hoping to find a spot on which to make camp for the night.<\/p>\n<p>After a mile of trudging along the beach I found a likely looking location that was clearly high enough up the beach to not be reached by the tide.<\/p>\n<p>I threw my stuff down and in the last snatches of light put the camp together. I snuggled up in the sleeping bag and poured myself a cup of good red wine and gazed up at the stars.<\/p>\n<p>I was about to fall asleep when, out of the \u00a0darkness, I heard talking. I soon made out five people walking my way. At first I felt a little frightened and nervous, then I heard female voices, at least two, among the group and immediately felt more assured. the likelihood of anything &#8216;bad&#8217; happening (in my view anyway) was greatly reduced by the\u00a0presence\u00a0of women.<\/p>\n<p>As it was, the group of young people passed by without incident, either not seeing or ignoring me. Eggs, ham, fried potatoes, toast and tea, all for \u00a36 and so well cooked! \u00a0The table service was quick and\u00a0cheerful, the cafe\u00a0immaculately\u00a0clean, it really was a wonder.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ham and eggs at Cafe Lila, Mundesley\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-IBFhDbBBCCc\/UAlxh6YDa6I\/AAAAAAAACdU\/O1xHnNcP26Y\/s512\/IMG-20120718-00155.jpg\" alt=\"Ham and eggs at Cafe Lila, Mundesley\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ham and eggs at Cafe Lilia, Mundesley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Actually,\u00a0Mundesley as a whole is a jolly friendly place, everyone I came across had a smile and a cheerful word for a lonesome traveller on the road to who-knows-where. I rejoined the beach and took a self-portrait, it was the least I could do.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Near Mundesley\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-ab-SzLuKj6M\/UA1BbnawvRI\/AAAAAAAACcQ\/S0jCd1Dtn9Q\/s640\/DSCN1617.JPG\" alt=\"Near Mundesley\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Near Mundesley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I was the only boy on the beach with only my quickly disappearing footsteps to prove I had passed by.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Steps in the sand\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-LUFmntNAZpc\/UA1Bfh_SyhI\/AAAAAAAACcg\/SDDatlM4DvM\/s512\/DSCN1613.JPG\" alt=\"Steps in the sand\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steps in the sand<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The two or three hours sleep started to catch up on me and I took a half hour nap on the beach just outside Happisburgh.<\/p>\n<p>On waking, I took a path that climbed up into the village and found the <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/109410420464305777276\/about?gl=uk&amp;hl=en\">Hill House pub<\/a> had just opened. \u00a0I walked in an ordered a pint and wrote up my journal.<\/p>\n<p>The Hill House is an excellent pub and served a fine pint of bitter, friendly locals as well. It was a this point I decided not to camp out another night. \u00a0I could see storm clouds gathering along the coast and I felt knackered from the two hours or so of sleep the night before. \u00a0So, instead of walking down the coast into the storm I headed west towards North Walsham where I could hop on a train back to Ely, a walk of another 10 miles or so.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Taking a rest on the march to North Walsham\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-hsz799PAs60\/UA1BZSip79I\/AAAAAAAACcI\/faj5ScLce68\/s640\/DSCN1619.JPG\" alt=\"Taking a rest on the march to North Walsham\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Taking a rest on the march to North Walsham<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>By the time I reached North Walsham I was exhausted, the heavy rucksack and lack of sleep had sapped my energy and all I wanted to do was get home.<\/p>\n<p>As I sat on the\u00a0platform\u00a0waiting for the train, the storm finally broke and what a storm! \u00a0Thunder, lightening, hail storms, I had made the right decision to go home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I walked this, the 15th stage of my\u00a0Grand Norfolk Hike, on 18th &#8211; 19th July 2012.
