{"id":6757,"date":"2017-10-26T06:34:03","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T06:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ukrainistatemp.martinblack.com\/?p=173"},"modified":"2018-03-03T17:53:14","modified_gmt":"2018-03-03T17:53:14","slug":"praise-danylo-hybral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/2017\/10\/praise-danylo-hybral\/","title":{"rendered":"In praise of Danylo Hybral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"drop1\">T<\/span>he East Germany v Soviet Union semi-final match during the Montreal Olympics of 1976 were too good an opportunity for twenty year old Ukrainian-Canadian <strong>Danylo Hybral<\/strong> to miss.<\/p>\n<p>Danylo bought himself a ticket for the game, took his seat among the 58,000 strong audience and waited for just the right moment.<\/p>\n<p>The Soviet Union team at that time was dominated by players from Ukraine&#8217;s Dynamo Kyiv, which added to the symbolism of what was to come.<\/p>\n<p>In the second half, with the score level at 0-0, Danylo took his chance and ran onto the pitch, waving the blue and yellow flag of Ukraine. \u00a0Shouting &#8220;Freedom for Ukraine!&#8221; he gave a rendition of the Hopak Cossack dance before the police arrived and led him away.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-195\" src=\"http:\/\/ukrainistatemp.martinblack.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/hybal-2.jpg\" alt=\"Danylo Hybral\" width=\"506\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/hybal-2.jpg 506w, https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/hybal-2-300x220.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px\" \/>And here&#8217;s a video:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1040\" height=\"780\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QSpgPSeC1Gw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;origin=http:\/\/martinblack.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The match ended 2-1 to East Germany, who went on to beat Poland 3-1 in the final. \u00a0As for the Soviet Union side, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/webcache.googleusercontent.com\/search?q=cache:9isi_045TLQJ:ukrweekly.com\/archive\/1976\/The_Ukrainian_Weekly_1976-36.pdf+&amp;cd=1&amp;hl=uk&amp;ct=clnk&amp;gl=ua\">Ukrainian Weekly (Sept \u00a076)<\/a>\u00a0reported that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>All three coaches of the Soviet Union team&#8230;Valeriy Lobanovsky, Oleh Bazylevych and Yury\u00a0Morozov were &#8220;relieved of their duties&#8221; as coaches of the USSR&#8217;s national team by the Soviet Sports Committee on the recommendation of the presidium of the national soccer federation.
