Ouse Valley Way marker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The River Great Ouse<\/a> \u00a0rises\u00a0near the village of Wappenham in Northamptonshire and\u00a0empties\u00a0out into the The Wash at King’s Lynn some 143 miles later. \u00a0It is the fourth longest river in the UK.<\/p>\n

The river\u00a0passes through my home, the city of Ely, in the English fenland. It also visits the village of Brampton where my parents in-law live. \u00a0I’ll be stopping there for a\u00a0replenishing pint of bitter at Brampton Mill pub.<\/p>\n

There are two other rivers called the Ouse in the UK. \u00a0The Ouse in Sussex<\/a> is (in)famous for being the river that claimed the life of Virginia Woolf. \u00a0There is also an Ouse in Yorkshire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I’ll be following the\u00a0Ouse Valley Way footpath<\/a> and will hopefully spend a night or two wild camping under the stars along the way, maybe even a quick swim at some point.<\/p>\n
