Their first single, &#8216;Aleister Crowley&#8217;, was\u00a0released in 1978 on the &#8216;No&#8217; \u00a0label.<\/p>\n<p>Everything about this single ouses punk-rock goodness: the day-glo cover, the X substituted for an S, scratchy cover art&#8230;really, what more do you want?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4622\" src=\"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix.jpg\" alt=\"The Pathetix single cover\" width=\"591\" height=\"591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix.jpg 591w, https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix-1000x1000.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 591px) 100vw, 591px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Positive\u00a0reviews in the music press and encouraging words from Peel, led to Rough Trade taking\u00a0500 copies of the single for distribution and the band\u00a0enter the indie chart for a week or two.<\/p>\n<p>I can vaguely remember hearing Peel playing the single. \u00a0A slightly sinister sound (and who is this Crowley bloke anyway?) a creeping sax, maybe a little long at 5 minutes but what the hell.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of years later I spot it in a 10p box and gleefully take it\u00a0home. \u00a0I hadn&#8217;t heard the record for ages and it still sounded good.<\/p>\n<p>A few decades later (i.e. last summer) I have just re-purchased a record player and pick the single out of my singles\u00a0box, I hadn&#8217;t heard it since the\u00a080s, had it stood the test of time?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad to say it has. \u00a0It still sounds unusual, it still sounds sinister, the cover still looks great.<\/p>\n<p>Decide for yourself:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1040\" height=\"585\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bs0TpMbSNaQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This is the single insert.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4625\" src=\"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix2.jpg\" alt=\"The Pathetix\" width=\"307\" height=\"890\" srcset=\"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix2.jpg 307w, https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/pathetix2-103x300.jpg 103w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you want to dig deeper into the band there&#8217;s an excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boredteenagers.co.uk\/pathitix.htm\">article on the Bored Teenager&#8217;s site<\/a>, well worth a read.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pathetix were formed in Nelson, Lancashire, sometime in 1976.
