camping microadventure blog round-up for January 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the start of the year, Alastair Humphreys, in his post\u00a0&#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alastairhumphreys.com\/microadventures-3\/year-microadventure-2\/\">Your Year of Microadventure<\/a>&#8216;, called for people\u00a0to live more adventurously in 2015, and\u00a0challenged us to spend one night out in the wild each month during the year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3225\" src=\"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/myyear-compressor.jpg\" alt=\"My year of microadventure\" width=\"426\" height=\"301\" 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Since that call to arms\u00a0I&#8217;ve noticed a rise the number\u00a0in great blog posts, videos and photos of people venturing out and spending nights in the open, under the stars and moon.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s some\u00a0great stories of adventure out there I thought I&#8217;d put together a monthly round-up of ones that caught my attention.<\/p>\n<p>If you think I&#8217;ve missed anyone out, or would like your blog\/video\/photo included, then please leave a comment below.<\/p>\n<h2>Steven Russell<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3220\" src=\"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Steven-Russell-smaller.png\" alt=\"Steven Russell\" snowy hills of the Scottish Borders.<\/p>\n<p>I particularly like his powerful\u00a0black and white photography taken in the midst of a snow storm, it sounds like it was a pretty dramatic camp!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/106486002399531931981\/posts\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Steven&#8217;s photos and report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Allysse\u00a0Riordan<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3207\" the other end of the scale but in no way any less of an adventure. \u00a0She bivvy&#8217;d the night in her local park, waking to frost on her boots.<\/p>\n<p>What I particularly like about this post was the audio she included, so we can actually join her on the camp, great stuff!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/besteglatisant.wordpress.com\/2015\/01\/24\/january-microadventure-start-small\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out\u00a0Allysse&#8217;s audio and report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Bethan John<\/h2>\n<p>Bethan decided to camp out after talking about microadventures in a pub. \u00a0Most plans discussed in pubs end up quickly forgotten but not for Bethan. \u00a0A few nights later she and a friend were sleeping in the light of the moon on a hill overlooking Cardiff.<\/p>\n<p>Bethan also\u00a0started up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/1542243369394839\/\">Cardiff Microadventures Facebook group<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wildlandscreative.com\/blog\/2015\/02\/what-do-you-need-for-a-successful-microadventure\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Bethan&#8217;s report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Stuart Greig (Lone Walker)<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3214\" src=\"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/lone-walker-compressor.png\" alt=\"lone walker wild Dales for a\u00a0microadventure with his friend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pilgrimchris.com\/\">Pilgrim Chris<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is another gorgeously snowy camp and the post has some lovely photos. \u00a0Stuart reports that the night temperature dropped as low as -8C!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/lonewalker.net\/january-microadventure\/\" target=\"_blank\">Check out Stuart&#8217;s report<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Jon Doolan \/\u00a0Harry Francis<\/h2>\n<p>Jon and Harry spent a night in local woods near Bishop\u2019s Stortford, they also managed to get in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hertsandessexobserver.co.uk\/VIDEO-Stortford-man-friend-embark-12\/story-25949939-detail\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">local paper!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Check out their on\u00a0Pewley Down near\u00a0Guildford in Surrey.<\/p>\n<p>From the post it sounds like they had a good supply of quality whisky on hand to enjoy before bedding down.<\/p>\n<p>The final sentence made me laugh: &#8220;I was pretty spaced out during the morning, not sure if that was due to sleeping out or the 5 pints and multiple whiskies.
