It was rather misty but it&#8217;s such a joy to be out walking\u00a0at this time, I&#8217;m always happiest hiking early in the morning, the earlier the better.<\/p>\n<p>We quickly found the path and began heading north in the direction of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moulton,_Suffolk\">Moulton<\/a>, in Suffolk where we&#8217;d be stopping for lunch.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-JVjqkAQpGkY\/VG9VhgsG2CI\/AAAAAAAAI9o\/FEy1M67iaAE\/s640\/ick-sign.png\" alt=\"Icknield Way signpost\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Icknield Way signpost<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This was Smithy&#8217;s second hike of over ten miles. \u00a0He spent most of the time at full stretch on the lead, pulling me along. \u00a0He&#8217;d stop every now and again and give me a quizzical look, as if he were expecting to be led back home by now. \u00a0He couldn&#8217;t believe his luck, non-stop walkies and Scooby-snacks galore, dog heaven!<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 478px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-t4Rf4IEkfwA\/VG9ZkaTzkEI\/AAAAAAAAI-A\/1GHnaCeBST4\/s512\/smithy%2520looking.png\" alt=\"Smithy on the way\" width=\"478\" height=\"512\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;C&#8217;mon, what&#8217;s keeping you?&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We arrived at Moulton for lunch.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-JXRSw7iwKJ0\/VG9bGZLZ3wI\/AAAAAAAAI-U\/3W7Tn_PsjWM\/s640\/MOULTON.png\" alt=\"Lunch at Moulton\" width=\"640\" height=\"392\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lunch at Moulton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Moulton is a lovely ancient village that\u00a0pre-dates the 1086 Domesday book and was the star attraction of the walk.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-IiklWRKu9xw\/VG9cHc6XECI\/AAAAAAAAI-c\/2OWfdjephsM\/s510\/smith-moulton.png\" alt=\"Smithy at St Peter's Church, Moulton\" width=\"480\" height=\"510\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Smithy at St Peter&#8217;s Church, Moulton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Saint Peter&#8217;s church looked stunning in the autumn afternoon and we lingered for a while in the churchyard.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 424px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-hr6GKurHSE0\/VG9dEXu9f-I\/AAAAAAAAI-k\/_VpHzWzEk-o\/s512\/st-peters.png\" alt=\"St Peter's church\" width=\"424\" height=\"512\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Peter&#8217;s church<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But all to soon Smithy caught the scent of a pheasant\/rabbit\/squirrel and was tugging me along the Way again.<\/p>\n<p>We both began to tire on the second half of the hike. \u00a0The fields felt muddier, the wind had picked up, my boots were leaking and rain was threatening.<\/p>\n<p>We were glad to arrive at Kennett station and catch the train back to Cambridge, where I had a cuppa tea and Smithy ate a Scooby snack.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2822\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2822\" style=\"width: 354px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2822\" src=\"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/smithy-pooped.png\" alt=\"A tired dog at Cambridge station\" width=\"354\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/smithy-pooped.png 354w, https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/smithy-pooped-261x300.png 261w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 354px) 100vw, 354px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2822\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A tired dog at Cambridge station<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We arrived home tired but happy. Smithy hit the sofa and didn&#8217;t leave\u00a0it until the following\u00a0morning. \u00a015 miles on his little legs, a tired but happy dog.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and the Icknield Way?
