{"id":2279,"date":"2014-01-07T22:38:08","date_gmt":"2014-01-07T22:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/?p=2279"},"modified":"2014-11-22T15:14:55","modified_gmt":"2014-11-22T15:14:55","slug":"the-wild-wash-wander-expedition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/2014\/01\/the-wild-wash-wander-expedition\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wild Wash Wander expedition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Made up largely of saltmarsh and mudflats, the Wash is a bay on the east coast of England, where Norfolk meets Lincolnshire.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of the largest estuaries in the UK and is fed by the Rivers Witham, Welland, Nene and Great Ouse. A National Nature Reserve, it is one the country&#8217;s most important winter feeding areas for birds.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 602px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"  \" alt=\"Wash path, between King's Lynn and Sutton Bridge\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-2jVMEpd1LXI\/Usst0-sosuI\/AAAAAAAABo8\/hdmQdivMVLc\/s912\/P1000186.JPG\" width=\"602\" height=\"325\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wash path, between King&#8217;s Lynn and Sutton Bridge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I find myself attracted to The Wash and its littoral.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a lot of space here, room to breathe. It&#8217;s an empty quarter of kinds, not many people venture out onto the paths that cut across the marshes and flats.\u00a0 As a walker-adventurer, one is largely on one&#8217;s own.<\/p>\n<p>Sounds enticing eh?<\/p>\n<p>Well, maybe.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s face it, this is not a landscape for the easily bored, there are no valleys, hills or woods in which to frolic.\u00a0 Not much to break the never-ending straight lines of the horizon.\u00a0 It goes on and on and on.
