{"id":2006,"date":"2013-09-18T12:58:47","date_gmt":"2013-09-18T12:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/?p=2006"},"modified":"2014-11-22T15:26:51","modified_gmt":"2014-11-22T15:26:51","slug":"the-rules-of-the-road-as-set-out-by-vachel-lindsay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/2013\/09\/the-rules-of-the-road-as-set-out-by-vachel-lindsay\/","title":{"rendered":"The &#8216;Rules of the Road&#8217; as set out by Vachel Lindsay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The poet and writer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vachel_Lindsay\">Vachel Lindsay<\/a> was a friend of the great\u00a0Stephen Graham (see <a title=\"In Praise of Wild Camping (no.6) \u2013 Stephen Graham\" href=\"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/2013\/03\/in-praise-of-wild-camping-no-6-stephen-graham\/\">Graham&#8217;s entry in my &#8216;In Praise of Wild Camping&#8217;<\/a> series)\u00a0and went tramping with him across the US Rockies back in 1921.<\/p>\n<p>The image below comes from Lindsay&#8217;s book &#8216;<a title=\"Get a copy for free at archive.org!\" href=\"http:\/\/archive.org\/details\/handyguideforbeg017659mbp\">A Handy Guide For Beggars<\/a>&#8216;, written in 1916.
