class=\"wp-caption-text\">Early morning hiker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was a lovely fresh summer&#8217;s morning and I was looking forward to hitting the trail.<\/p>\n<p>An hour or so later I arrived at the long-abandoned hamlet of Campeau.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" \" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Campeau<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The surrounding countryside and gently rolling hills reminded me of home.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption height=\"432\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Campeau<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Campeau was magical, bewitching. \u00a0I spent some time here trying to imagine how it must have been when all the ruined buildings were occupied. \u00a0I thought of \u00a0the people who had lived here. \u00a0There were no ghosts, just the birds and the odd black squirrel.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: alt=\"Campeau\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Campeau<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The path began to climb and I was soon rewarded with a fine view of the brooding mountain of Canigou, the highest peak of the Mediterranean Pyrenees.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Canigou<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I descended into the valley of the river Agly. \u00a0I took a short diversion to visit the source of the Agly. \u00a0It was midday and very hot, my feet had never been so happy to be thrust into cold water.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 384px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/-pIVz2tM4d8Q\/UimG7kfEYgI\/AAAAAAAABLE\/r7Y5mPe8G1Q\/s512\/DSCN0116.JPG\" alt=\"Near the source of the River Algy\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Near the source of the River Algy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I continued on a path that kept more-or-less next to the Algy until I arrived at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.moulin-de-galamus.com\/\">Le Vieux Moulin<\/a> campsite just south of the village of\u00a0Cubi\u00e8res-sur-Cinoble.<\/p>\n<p>At 10 euros the campsite was a pretty good deal with nice hot showers and bar\/restaurant. \u00a0I set up camp and then took a walk down the nearby\u00a0Gorges de Galamus.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img height=\"337\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Campsite pitch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The highlight of my stay at the campsite was a wonderful dinner of hamburger in baguette with chips and a beer, oh simple pleasures! \u00a0The bar\/restaurant is delightfully placed with the river Agly running alongside.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img
