{"id":1156,"date":"2012-12-29T18:27:14","date_gmt":"2012-12-29T18:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/martinblack.com\/?p=1156"},"modified":"2014-11-22T15:22:43","modified_gmt":"2014-11-22T15:22:43","slug":"a-quick-hike-in-the-peak-district","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/martinblack.com\/oldsite\/2012\/12\/a-quick-hike-in-the-peak-district\/","title":{"rendered":"A quick hike in the Peak District"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re up in Sheffield visiting some friends who moved up here from London a couple of months ago.<\/p>\n<p>So far I&#8217;m most impressed with Sheffield. \u00a0Nice pubs (especially <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mygreystones.co.uk\/home.html\">Greystones<\/a>\u00a0with their wonderful selection of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thornbridgebrewery.co.uk\/\">Thornbridge<\/a>\u00a0ales), some excellent second hand bookshops (I purchased <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Hillaby\">John Hilllaby<\/a>&#8216;s &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Journey-Through-Britain-Travel-Literature\/dp\/0094749906\">Journey Through Britain<\/a>&#8216; for \u00a32.50) and good cafes with excellent coffee and snacks.<\/p>\n<p>But the thing I like most of all is the easy access to the hills. \u00a0Within twenty minutes of leaving inner-city Sheffield I was on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkingenglishman.com\/peakdistrict05.htm\">Curbar Edge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" \" title=\"Curbar Edge, Peak District\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-t6ev3BiNIos\/UN6prhCiWaI\/AAAAAAAADdQ\/8LgxPjZMT1U\/s640\/IMG-20121228-00426.jpg\" alt=\"Curbar Edge, Peak District\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Curbar Edge, Peak District<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The views were\u00a0magnificent. \u00a0It was wonderful to be up in the hills again.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 576px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" \" title=\"The view from Curbar Edge, English Peak District\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-Zd3dgGl47R8\/UN6pzcvWJKI\/AAAAAAAADdQ\/uFNa6nxlURQ\/s640\/IMG-20121228-00424.jpg\" alt=\"The view from Curbar Edge, English Peak District\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The view from Curbar Edge, English Peak District<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sadly we only had enough time for a short walk and today has been mostly rain but I now have a northern base (thanks to the spare room in my friend&#8217;s new home) for future adventures on the peaks, fells and moors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re up in Sheffield visiting some friends who moved up here from London a couple of months ago.
